  • Abstract : Banana production in Australia over the past three years has been hrough a period of very difficult times. In north Queensland, the major production area for Cavendish, recovered from the outbreak of black Sigatoka in 2001 through to 2003. Survey results have now indicated the eradication programme that was implemented has been successful, however throughout this period banana price have been very depressed resulting in many medium and small growers exiting the industry. The larger companies have taken up this loss on production by planting more.
