  • Abstract : Black Sigatoka, a leaf spot disease, caused by Mycosphaerella fijiensis Morelet seems to be one of the major constraints in the banana and plantain production in Upper-Zaire. Indeed, a survey study undertaken at Yangambi on 12 plantain and 4 banana cultivars revealed that all the observed cultivars were attacked with an exception of banana "Yangambi km 5" which was tolerant. In other hand, significant differences were observed between bananas and plantains cultivated in fields and those planted in backyards. The regular application of organic matter in backyard farms seems to be one of the major reasons of those differences. (Authors' abstract).

    [La cercosporiose noire, maladie de taches foliaires, causée par Mycosphaerella fijiensis Morelet semble être une des contraintes majeures dans la production du plantain et de la banane dans le Haut-Zaïre. En effet, une étude prospective menée à Yangambi sur 12 cultivars de plantains et 4 de bananiers "dessert" a révélé que tous les cultivars observés étaient attaqués à l'exception du bananier dessert "Yangambi km 5" qui était tolérant. D'autre part, des différences significatives ont été observées entre bananiers et plantains cultivés en champs et ceux autour des cases.
