• Abstract : The present paper suggests a re-grouping of the species in the genus Musa to conform with the findings of cytological and genetical studies of material in the collection of the Imperial College of Tropical Agriculture in Trinidad. One division falls between species having 11 pairs of chromosomes and species having 10 pairs. A general description of the genus is given, followed by the suggested division into sections.
