- Abstract : The vast changes in cultural and shipping practices and the many new approaches to disease control discovered during the 1960s have made necessary a new appraisal of banana diseases and their control.
After a brief review of varieties and banana breeding, and cultivation and shipping practices in relation to disease this book consists of descriptions of all well-defined diseases and disorders of bananas, plantains and abaca. The information given about each condition includes the causal agent, factors influencing the incidence, and control measures. A list is also given of diseases excluded from this book with references to the original reports, and the appendices include a pathogen list and a table of chemicals for which tolerances have been established by United States regulatory agencies.
