• Abstract : Bunchy top disease is the most serious virus disease of banana and plantain in the world. Bunchy top is spread locally in a persistent manner by the banana aphid (Pentalonia nigronervosa). Spread over long distances is by the movement of infected plant material (suckers, corms and tissue culture plants). The disease does not remain in the soil and cannot be spread by harvesting tools. All the Musa species and cultivars tested to date seem to be susceptible to banana bunchy top virus (BBTV), although the incubation period may vary. BBTV isolates collected in different regions of the world are closely related serologically, although recent information would appear to indicate that there are two distinct populations of single-stranded genome DNA. Isolates from Australia, Africa, the South Pacific and India form one group and those from South-East Asia form another.
  
  [Le bunchy top est, dans le monde entier, l'affection virale la plus grave des bananiers et des bananiers plantain. Le bunchy top est transmis localement, de maniere persistante et circulante, par le puceron du bananier (Pentalonia nigronervosa). La diffusion à distance se fait par le déplacement de matériel végétal infecté (rejets, souches, vitroplants). La maladie ne demeure pas présente dans le sol et ne peut être transmise par les outils de récolte. Toutes les espèces et cultivars de Musa testés jusqu'à présent semblent sensibles au virus du bunchy top, bien que la période d'incubation puisse varier. Les isolats du BBTV collectés dans différentes régions du monde sont sérologiquement étroitement apparentés, bien que des informations récentes laissent à penser qu'il existe deux populations distinctes de l'ADN génomique monocaténaire. Les isolats d'Australie, d'Afrique, du Pacifique Sud et d'Inde constituent un groupe, et ceux de l'Asie du Sud-Est en forment un autre.]
  
  [El bunchy top es la enfermedad viral de mayor gravedad en importancia en bananos y plátanos. Su agente transmisor es el áfido del banano (Pentalonia nigronervosa) que propaga localmente la enfermedad. Su difusión en grandes distancias está ligada al desplazamiento de material de plantación infectado (hijos, cepas, cultivos de tejidos). La enfermedad no permanece en el suelo y no puede ser transmitida por las herramientas de cosecha. Todas las especies y cultivares de Musa probados hasta hoy se muestran sensibles al virus del bunchy top aunque difieran los periodos de incubación. Los aislados del BBTV tomados en diferentes regiones del mundo están serologicamente estrechamente emparentados, aunque unas informaciones recientes parecen indicar que existen dos poblaciones distintas de ADN genómico de cadena sencilla. Los aislados de Australia, Africa, Pacífico sur y la India forman un grupo, y los del sudeste asiático otro.]
