  • Abstract : This monograph integrates all the research, both published and unpublished, undertaken by the Research Department of the United Fruit Company in Central America on the control of banana wilt or Panama disease on 'Gros Michel' bananas, going back to 1914. Most of the unpublished research had appeared in United Fruit Company Research Department annual and other reports, and in reports of sponsored research at universities (University of California at Berkeley, Cornell University and Oregon State College). The monograph covers the spread and symptoms of the disease, the pathogen and its hosts, environmental factors, the behaviour of the pathogen in soil, and control practices are discussed.
