- Abstract : The aims of the expedition were as follows: (1) to discover and collect wild and edible strains of Musa acuminata which, on the basis of bunch shape, fruit size and disease resistance, might be of value in banana breeding; (2) to amass all the scientific information about the bananas, both wild and cultivated, that could be obtained in the time available with a view both to improving fundamental knowledge of the group and to meeting future
practical problems.
